Scherri-Lee takes a trip back in time to tour the Australian Age of Dinosaurs Museum and the Waltzing Matilda Museum, an absolute must for all Australians!

  • Winton is such a quintessential Aussie outback town that it’s regularly used as a movie and television set these days, but there’s more to it than just being extremely good looking. With the help of local guides, APT guests will discover the many attractions of Winton.
  • Winton is also home to the Australian Age of Dinosaurs Museum. As well as housing the world’s largest collection of Australian dinosaur fossils, the museum offers Dinosaur Dig days, and courses where you can learn how to prepare real dinosaur fossils for display.
  • The Australian Age of Dinosaurs is located on over 1,800 hectares of rugged mesa plateau, or jump-up.

  • The Jump-Up is approximately 270m above sea level, stands 75m above the surrounding land and is part of the Winton Formation, which is dated around 95–98 million years old.
  • It all makes for some incredible exploring, with stunning views, vast scenery, and countless walking trails.
  • The Waltzing Matilda Centre is the only museum in the world dedicated to a single song.
  • Waltzing Matilda was written right here in Winton in 1895, by legendary Australian poet Banjo Patterson.
