• Pulu Maria is another nearby island that can be reached by boat from Direction Island.
• It is a nature reserve and home to many bird species, including the red-footed booby and frigate bird.
• The marine environment surrounding Direction Island is protected, with a newly proclaimed Marine Park in place to preserve the unique ecosystem.
